Her primary role was compliance monitoring, plan maintenance and participant education. She was also responsible for insurance case design, portfolio management, and advanced planning strategies for the firm’s individual clients.
Erika serves as the Treasurer of the French Hospital Medical Center Foundation and is Chair of the Foundation’s finance committee. She is also a member of the Executive Committee for the South County Chambers of Commerce. Erika devotes time as a guest speaker for Cal Poly’s finance club and Elite College Planning & Prep’s financial aid workshops. She enjoys mentoring high school and college students who are interested in pursuing careers in financial services.
I was a restless teenager, and in the 90’s, before internet and cell phones, and with no car and no cable TV, I found myself with few options for entertainment in the summer months. I would ride my bike to the Santa Maria Public Library, and park myself in one of the alcoves to read financial magazines and books. I found financial topics complex and somewhat difficult to understand, especially tax issues, estate planning, and the countless different types of investments—I had no idea money could be so complicated or that the rules would change year to year. I figured if I had trouble figuring all this out after reading all this stuff, how does the average person figure it out? That’s really what started me on this path to become a financial advisor—even though at the time I had no idea that’s what I would be.
I love what I do. Every day is challenging and fun for me. This calling in life evolved into something far greater and more meaningful than I ever imagined. The best part of my job is getting to work with people to help them get the satisfaction of making confident decisions and control the outcome of their lives and money. Creating Point Sur Advisors has allowed me to provide good advice with excellent service and thoughtfulness.
My husband, Mike, and I both grew up in Santa Maria, but didn’t meet until 20 years later when a mutual friend introduced us. I have two stepsons who are now in college, and I just can’t believe how quickly they grew up from the little tikes they were when Mike and I first met. The four of us had very few common interests, except for (as we surprisingly found out) snowboarding and scuba diving! We spent what little free time we had taking dive trips off the coast of California and in Mexico. We have travelled to many national parks together and a few places in Europe. One of our goals is to visit all the New Seven Wonders of the World.
